Sedation Provider Course ®
The SPS Sedation Provider Course® is intended to provide sedation practitioners with the basic knowledge and core competencies that promote safe and effective procedural sedation in children. The course focuses on patient selection and risk assessment (safety), general approach to procedural sedation, sedation monitoring, sedative drug pharmacology and the recognition and management of the more common sedation- related adverse events.
Individuals may enroll in the online learning course as an independent educational offering (both CME and CEU credit available), or may sign up for one of the full-day, blended learning courses offered by the SPS for the complete course experience which includes the online learning package plus simulation-based training.

This online course provides a comprehensive review of pediatric procedural sedation, including pre-sedation assessment, sedative pharmacology, sedation-related adverse events, monitoring and management of adverse events, patient recovery and discharge process.

Based on member level, institutional members have access to the blended learning package which is comprised of the online learning package plus the simulation-based training course which together form the live hands-on full day SPS Sedation Provider Course®.
The Simulation-Based Training Course Includes:• Six Simulation Scenarios (software programs available to run on Laerdal, Gaumard, and Muse highfidelity manikins)
• Airway Management Workshop instructional materials
• Tailoring Sedation Problem Based Learning Discussion instructional materials
• Instructional materials for course-day design
The live training course is designed to provide practitioners with the knowledge and practical skills that promote safe and effective high-quality procedural sedation to children.
You Have Options There are several ways to incorporate these educational opportunities in practitioner training and credentialing pathways.
Individuals may only wish to enroll in the online learning course as an independent educational offering (both CME and CEU credit available), or may sign up for one of the full-day courses offered by the SPS for the complete course experience which includes simulation-based training.
Institutions may use both the online learning module package and simulation-based training course as part of their training and credentialing for sedation practitioners. SPS Members, both individual and institutional, have access to the SPS Sedation Provider Course® materials at a significant discount, and SPS Institutional Members at the Platinum or Gold-Education levels receive the simulation package materials as a member benefit, free of charge.
